Betrayal

Someone working for one of the factions is either tempted by an opposing faction or has secretly been working with them all along.

Branch

You may introduce an additional option into the storyline, provided you can reasonably insert it into the existing narrative. The option may be an item of up to 100 gp value per character level of your character, the services of a creature of up to your CR, or something else within that general power level. The DM may make the option contingent on completion of an encounter.

Captured!

Your party is captured instead of whatever outcome the encounter is likely to have. This may be due to external forces of a high CR neutralizing a threat and subsequently capturing you, or your enemies subdue you instead of killing you. It is possible even with this card your party is not captured, but it is not possible to be killed (note this can't bring characters back from the dead). You earn 25% of XP for any enemies defeated.

Cavalry

An additional party composed of up to as many creatures as your party arrives. They may individually have a CR no greater than your own. The DM decides if the creatures are hostile, but you gain XP for all creatures in the encounter.

Deux Ex

A benevolent force of at least your CR enters the combat on your behalf. You do not gain any XP for this encounter. Alternatively, you encounter a neutral or allied party being overwhelmed by enemy forces at least your CR + 1. You gain double XP for this encounter.

Disaster

A disaster (natural, man-made, or act of Gods) occurs!

Nemesis

An NPC you encounter has a confrontational history with your character. Gain +25% XP for the encounter.

Prop

Play this card when an encounter is described or a map is drawn. An item or structure of no more than 100 gp in value is in the location being described.

Rocks Fall

An NPC of your choice is removed from the adventure

Secret Power

You have a special ability only available to you in times of great need. The ability must be of a power level equal to an ability a creature of your CR could possess. The ability is only available narratively, at the time you play this card and other similar times. Use of this card is vetoed if you're being a jerk about it.

Seduction Check

Choose a skill. That skill has an unforseseen application in this encounter.
